What is Coronavirus?

The recent outbreak of the disease COVID-19 has claimed over 120,000 lives and has infected more than 2 million people worldwide of all ages. COVID-19 is caused by a large group of viruses called Coronavirus, which are common among animals. The spikes protruding from the virus membrane look like the sun’s corona. It is due to that reason the virus gets the name.

The virus symptoms include illness of the respiratory tract, affecting the lungs and making the infected person difficult to breathe. It shows symptoms very similar to previous diseases like Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).
