Over 20 research institutes in India including the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and The National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune are working to develop a vaccine for the SARS-nCOV-2. The Indian government has received 7000 tech-based proposals from private companies and individuals from all over the country to fight COVID-19. The government is dealing with scaling up the production of ventilators and COVID-19 test kits to accelerating research for the development of a vaccine to fight SARS-nCOV-2. The government said a Mysuru-based firm is increasing its capacity to make more ventilators. They are working with DBT, DRDO, and NITI Ayog. India had less than 1 lakh intensive care unit and a bed ratio of 1:1000. In the case of mass, outbreak ventilators will play a crucial role in saving many lives. More than 45 potentially effective drugs against COVID-19 have been identified and research is ongoing. This research is also being shared with the international consortium, but in any case, the vaccine will take time.
