In India, as per the health ministry data released on 4th April 2020, over 63% of COVID-19 deaths are amongst patients, who are 60-plus years old. However, the patients with age of more than 60 years make up 19% of total COVID-19 cases. Amongst the total deaths in India, 30% of those who died were between 40-60 years of age and 7% were younger than 40 years. The health ministry of India on 4th April 2020, released an age-wise analysis of all COVID-19 cases: 8.6% of patients were 20 years of age or below, 41.9% were between 21 to 40 years of age, 32.8% were between 41 to 60 years of age and 16.7% were above 60 years of age. This analysis appears to be in line with global trends. The data also reveals that the elderly are at more risk if they are infected.
