What are some of the things that come with Summer?

1.      Sunburns

There are harmful ultraviolet rays in the hot scorching sun, when exposed to this heat for longer durations these rays can penetrate into the sensitive skin resulting in a condition called sunburns. This is characterized by dry, reddish and itchy skin, which is also accompanied by fever, chills, and nausea. Severe cases may also manifest as blisters and skin may peel off after the condition heals.

What to do?

Apply sunscreen that has strong SPF; make sure the skin is well moisture.

2.      Heatstroke

If you are out in the sun for longer periods and experience weakness, dizziness, cramps, shallow breathing, headache, skin dryness, increased heart rate, or other such signs, there is a strong likelihood that you may be suffering from heatstroke. This can be easily managed, although if the symptoms worsen it may lead to fatal effects.

What to do?

Minimize stepping out during the peak heat hours. However, if it is needed, make sure you cover yourself adequately but do not go overboard with it as it can trap the body heat inside and might worsen the condition. Try to stay in cooler places.

3.      Food Poisoning

Hot climatic conditions promote bacterial growth and multiplication. Food that is prepared in advance and allowed to retain in heat encourages perfect conditions for contamination and food poisoning. Food poisoning is a commonest disease that spreads during the summer season and can occur by eating contaminated food or water. This condition may trigger when you eat food that has been in contact with various kinds of viruses, bacteria, or toxins. The symptoms of food poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, etc.

4.      Chicken Pox

Chicken Pox, a viral condition manifests as small fluid-filled blisters throughout the body. Most commonly affects children, sometimes affects adults who are diabetic and those with a weakened immune system. This contagious disease spreads through air-borne particles that are spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes or by direct contact with the infected person. Sometimes the infection may stay dormant and arises when the climate is suitable.

What to do?

Taking a chickenpox shot can give prevention, and refraining from the infected person.

5.      Jaundice

Jaundice being food or waterborne disease is most common during summers. This condition may affect anyone who consumes contaminated food or water. Hepatitis A virus gets into the body through the feces-oral route, and this occurs when water or food that is contaminated with the feces of an infected person is consumed. This condition can become severe and affect the major organs like the liver. The main symptoms of jaundice include yellowish skin, pale eyes, dark-colored urine, itchy skin, etc.

What to do?

Maintaining a healthy weight, managing cholesterol levels, and putting a limit on your alcohol consumption may help in preventing the condition.

6.      Summer cold

There is a kind of virus that produces cold-like symptoms, which tends to rear its head during the summer months. It is called enterovirus and can cause more complicated symptoms than the typical winter cold. The symptoms of a summer cold caused by enterovirus are fever, headache, and sore throat, sometimes mouth sores, or a rash.

7.      Acne

Acne may worsen during hot weather. Summers can increase your chances of acne and pimples. This is because to keep your body cool, it produces more sweat. What to do?

Washing the face thrice a day may help in keeping your skin oil-free. Applying a homemade face pack with curd, lemon juice, and turmeric can help ward off acne.
